From memory the Hartman modifications are instructions on how to drill out the stock muffler to relieve a great deal of the back pressure, changing the exhaust note tone considerably allowing the engine to breathe more freely
The modifications gave instructions on how to drill a series of holes in the end of the muffler - - I think to a total of 6 - and then punch out some of the interior baffling.
